check-raising
in Texas two card hold'em poker and all games of poker.
The check-raise has become a standard of the game of Texas Hold'em and
many other forms of poker such as Seven Card Stud, Five Card Stud and
just about every other form of poker there is. I have learned that it
is a potent way of not only getting the pot bigger, but can be an
excellent method of buying a "free card" in the next round of bets in
the game of hold'em and also for Seven and Five card stud.
To Check-raise you
merely check when you are first asked to bet then when somebody else
bets you raise when it is your turn.
To use the
check-raise to buy a "free card" you merely raise someone's bet on the
round called the "flop". The flop is the first 3 cards that are placed
upside on the table and after which, is a round of betting. The "free
card" which isn't really free, obviously, but by raising during this
round, it is half the price of your next bet this is because
most times players will not bet the next round because they will be
waiting for you to bet. Then if you didn't get a card to help your
hand, you can check and therefore get to see your next card for
"free".
