Sit and go tournaments,
otherwise known as single table tournaments: in
Texas Two Card Hold'em poker - are a breed to their own in my humble opinion. This
is the one area of poker that I can truly say that I feel confident playing
almost anybody.
While everybody has their own
style; many of which are a much more aggressive approach than I prefer;
there is no sure-fire strategy that you can count on to be able to always fall
back on. Your play is going to be decided by a number of factors which largely
will depend on the way your opponents act. I hope you understand and take away
from the above the fact that you are going to have to adjust your play according
to how your opponents act and react, which is a talent that comes from
extended hours of playing the game (for real, don't expect to learn
playing free games because you'll never get a true game out of a lot of the
players because they can bet it all anytime and have literally nothing to lose).

If you've read any books at all
on Texas hold'em, then you've likely heard the term "position" come up. My
mistake early one was not respecting that term enough. I think we all can agree
that to have a chance at winning, you must be still "in the game" in order
for that to happen. I've nearly taken the approach of marking the "sit out"
button on my single table tournaments and then coming back and entering the game
somewhere after the first two rounds of blinds have passed. Its just too damn
easy to take a loss, which is usually a bad beat (when the opponent had
the weaker hand at the time of the all-in), when you're at a full table.
There's always one or two jokers who will play shit-hands (otherwise known as
rags) which could be your downfall if you're holding an AK and your opponent
holds A6 and the flop comes A, 6, 7. These kinds of players will
eventually meet their doom; but they may take out one or two good players
by the above mentioned means; before they fall.
By holding off until three or
even four players are gone from the table; you basically enter the game at
mid-season with a full stack of chips (minus the cost of the inexpensive blinds
you paid and then folded). Now your competition generally consists of two kinds
of players, most of which by now will have nearly a 2:1 chip lead over
you. Not too worry. The first set of players are the real deal.
You've seen them play seldom, have strong hands; and needless to say they
won enough of them to still be around. Avoid conflicts with them unless
extremely well-armed. The second type of players are what I term: the "holders".
They've gotten lucky and by now have likely doubled up (or better) and upon
noticing the kind of hands they are playing and winning with: you have
been just patiently awaiting the time when you get an outstanding hand to call
their overconfident and ever increasing in size; bets.

poker - usually has smaller stakes single table games on a regular
basis. Expect to wait during off-peak hours about 5 min to game start.
Larger stakes games, $50 buy ins and up are not near as predominant and
you may wait 30 mins or longer to get a full table.
